Cheap cell phone service ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. Are you sure about the 500 minutes being NIGHT and weekend? I was just helping my daughter look for a cheap plan and all the Voicestream info we saw said the 500 minutes wqere weekend only, not night.

A. Sorry about starting a new cell phone thread, but this doesn't quite fit in with the other subjects floating around in the past month. Anyway, I looked and looked to find a cheap cell phone provider that didn't charge a lot for a phone (got a free one on this plan) and had a seldom-used plan that didn't charge a dollar a minute. This one charges $19.99/month for 60 anytime minutes and 500 night/weekend minutes. Perfect for me, because I rarely ever used my last cell phone and was paying $29.99. And when the phone battery wouldn't hold a charge, they no longer carried replacement batteries and I would've had to buy a whole new phone for at least $99. The company I'm switching to is VoiceStream Wireless. It might not meet your needs because they don't seem to have blanket coverage of the States, but fortunately all my family members live in highly populated areas. Plus I won't need it for car breakdowns in remote areas because I usually fly everywhere out of state. Anyway, for 20 bucks plus our ridiculous taxes (at least in WA state) I can finally have a fairly affordable cell phone. Boy did I miss having one on my last trip. Especially since pay phones usually don't allow incoming calls, and when I finally found one that did, there was a one-minute limit, and then I was asked to pay 25cents/min. for incoming. The pay phone companies are really pushing people like me into the cell phone market with their stupidity. With calling cards, even if it's only 10 cents a minute, the pay phone takes a lump sum of 35-99 cents surcharge off your calling card, too. If magically I could use up *exactly* my 560 minutes a month, that would be 3.6 cents a minute or so, if my math is right. But at any rate, I need to be able to receive calls, so this is the best solution for me, however reluctant I am.
