Finance Q&A

Chassis questions.

Edwards Finance > General Engineering

Q. I've now changed my plans once again for my Vega and was wondering if it would be a problem to put in a full chassis in the car even though the frame is bent quite a bit. Will it really make that big a difference since the chassis is going to be all new or will things be like mounting points and other things be off by a little because of the pretty well bent chassis. I don't feel like it will be a problem, but if any of you have any reasons why you believe it would be enlighten me. Also I was wondering if anyone has dealt with Chris Alstons Chassisworks because I've heard only good about them and would like to hearabout any past experiences with them. Or has anyone ever done business with Chassis Engineering or Art Morrison and if so how was the quality of the product and how good were the directions and ease(I know it's not easy) of assembly and installation considering you're building a chassis.

A. My best friend installed a Chassis Engineering rear subframe and cage in a 70 Cuda. It had good instructions and a videotape. I would think their full chassis kit would also have good blueprints and instructions. 'Car Craft' magazine did a 55 Chevy using an Art Morrison kit a few years ago. If funds allow, getting the chassis kit factory welded would be a good idea. The local (Dallas) Alston dealer gets about $2500 for a welded 'Prolink' chassis in mild steel. Knowing the chassis is built to spec might make it easier to compensate for problems in the body panels.
