Charter Phone Service. Charter - Damn their oily hides! ?Q. Can you bring a cable tv with you to another house ? With DISH you can, all you have to do is get another dish and bring the reciever. Right now we have cable and we have had more problems with it then we have had with satellite. A. Fiber pushed deeper and closer to the homes with fewer homes per node followed by fiber to the neighborhood/block then curb then home. All digital with more bandwidth for High Definition than satellite can provide without continuously adding more dishes on houses and satellites in orbit, including HD locals which are of almost no concern to an industry that has dragged its heels on SD Local into Local service. Interactive Video on Demand that satellite cannot do which can offer over 1000 titles with full PVR capabilities. PVR for all of the above which satellite cannot claim is exclusive to them. Telephony both in the current way as well as Voice over IP. DBS doesn't do voice, despite the DBS industry saying they're bringing that someday. The statutory reliability for phone service cannot be remotely achieved by satellite because they can't guarantee your phone's power any more than a cell phone company can, therefore they aren't going to be a voice CLEC. You may note that during severe power outages, cable companies with telephony go around with generators to keep their nodes going. They have to if they are the sole provider of 911 service as a local phone company. High speed data which DirecWay can't remotely compare with never mind the idiotically mismanaged StarBand. I work both cable and satellite installation and support and I have looked long and hard at where satellite is going, hoping desperately they'd come up with a serious challenge to cable to overcome and force innovation. I haven't seen it yet. Cable is nevertheless forging ahead in ways that satellite isn't, and it is an embarassment many times to even let people know that I do satellite.
