training

Edwards Finance > CAD Drafting

Q. Is there training avilable in Vancouver B.C. Canada? I purchased a student copy while serving my apprenticeship but the technical school only offers ACAD. Sorry I figure thats a dirty word here. So far just diddling with Acad and Cadkey, I have found CADkey much simpler to get the hang of. But with no formal training it is useless to me. I am considering taking a cad course in Jan. in Vancouver. Is ther anything out there?

A. -I am not sure if there is any formal Cadkey training here in Vancouver. But one thing I would suggest is that you should take any course you can. AutoCad is a good start if that is all that is availabe. I have found that CAD packages are all the same in theory. They all are trying to complete the same task. For myself at least, I feel like I can jump from one CAD package to another and pick it up in a reasonable time frame. A CAD course gives you the tools to use a CAD package. If you really want to get down to the nitty gritty of it, (if you have not already) take a board drafting class. All of the formal training I had in University as far as CAD/Drafting is concerned has given me the tools to jump from one package to another. FYI, I was 1st taught manual drafting, I then went through a few levels of AutoCad classes. I picked up Cadkey 2D in no time flat. It took the 3D and surfacing probably a couple of weeks to a month to feel like I was becoming efficient with it. -sorry to say nothing i have found in vancouver.went we purchast cadkey' we hired the dealer to train me in a four hour session(about 500us) this gave me a good basis to work from.the company is tech net in seattle, wash.you might try tash bussiness survaces in aldergrouve.they offer training, but again they are dealers so expect a cost per 4 hour charge. i can though recomend two books--keys to cadkey and cadkey workbook by walter silva.about $60 each us.
