Business Telephone Directory?
Q. I would like to tell the world a story about a very large company in Vancouver, BC Canada by the name of DOMINION DIRECTORY.
A. DOMINION DIRECTORY is responsible for publishing the YELLOW PAGES for the BC TELEPHONE COMPANY. Early last year the business which I own wasn't doing very well. DOMINION DIRECTORY,better known as the BC TEL YELLOW PAGES contacted me and asked me if I would like to place some advertising in their directory. My immediate answer was NO! I knew my business wasn't doing well, and I knew I couldn't afford the additional expense. After many extended time consuming conversations with the sales rep, she was finally able to convince me that after the advertising was published, the profits would be so large, that I wouldn't even have to worry about paying the bill. She assured me that THIS ADVERTISING WOULD PAY !! Two months later the advertising had brought 2 customers, and seven telephone enquiries concerning rates. You see, I run a small plumbing business, and people are always wondering how much plumbers charge. DOMINION DIRECTORY was charging me 350.00 per month for this advertising. As soon as I realized the advertising wasn't working, I went back to the yellow pages and started to complain. After many many telephone calls and arguments, they finally decided to cut my advertising bill in half, just to shut me up. You see, I was so pissed off, that I told them I would make this a public story. They don't want a public story about poor advertising. Now, DOMINION DIRECTORY is terrified that if the word gets out they are discounting already published advertising, that everyone will suddenly come running up to their door requesting the same.
