Q. Early last year the business which I own wasn't doing very well. DOMINION DIRECTORY,better known as the BC TEL YELLOW PAGES contacted me and asked me if I would like to place some advertising in their directory. My immediate answer was NO! I knew my business wasn't doing well, and I knew I couldn't afford the additional expense. After many extended time consuming conversations with the sales rep, she was finally able to convince me that after the advertising was published, the profits would be so large, that I wouldn't even have to worry about paying the bill. She assured me that THIS ADVERTISING WOULD PAY !!

A. Now, according to the CRTC, (CANADIAN RADIO AND TELEVISION COMMISSION), the telephone companies in Canada really don't have any right to collect advertising fees, and include that in on your bill. This bi law was passed in an ONTARIO court ruling a few years ago. The telephone companies in Canada are only responsible for collecting telephone bills. If you pay your telephone bill, they cannot cut your phone line off. So....if you enter into an advertising dispute with the yellow pages, the phone company is obligated to separate your bill from the advertising and only bill your for the telephone usage. All other bills will then be sent separate. I have now done just that. DOMINION DIRECTORY is now comming to me and telling me, that it was my decision to place the advertising in the first place, and even though it may not do me any good, I will still have to pay for a full year, unless I disconnect the telephone line, so the number cannot be used any longer. If I disconnected the phone line, I would loose all the existing business I have now, which isn't alot, buy wouldn't give me much chance for any more......would it? I would have been more than happy to pay the bill, if I had the money. The reason I placed the advertising, was so that I could get some money. Even if I just broke even I would have been happy. Now the senior executive for DOMINION DIRECTORY, Joe Kuyek has placed this account in the hands of a bailiff, and they want to sew me for around 2000.00 (two thousand dollars). This is THIEVERY ! They sold me advertising under false pretences. They promised me BUSINESS, and instead I have more worries and problems than I did in the first place. They almost harrasted me, until I bought the damd advertising, and now I'm going to be put into bankruptcy because of it.
