Phone numbers and moreQ. Here is an interesting site, it is the US business phone book, I punched in three of our members who's number I didn't have and eureka. Sometimes it pays not to be too specific, a surname or initial does the job. Some other interesting stuff as well;-)) Like school friends. Nothing is secret in the US. http://adp.infousa.com/fs/consumer.htm A. Well, the good news is that I am not findable. And interestingly, I also see that many distant relatives still live in a town where they were prominent ca 150 years ago. Well, MINE is on there. Unfortunately three of the five pieces of information they list are erroneous. Only the name and phone number are correct. I found myself, and the information was correct except for the first year I lived here, which was off by 25 years. I looked up my mother and found two listings, one with a wrong phone number. Both listings showed the same wrong date for the first year lived there. I wonder if all the listings say 1996? Last year, the company I work for elected to switch our long distance service to MCI. No big deal. At the same time, the decision was made to switch local phone service from Pacific Bell (Pac Bell) to MCI. Now the problems begin. Let's just skip all the problems with no longer having *69 call back or some of the forwarding options we used to have. One of the features of having Pac Bell providing local business service is that your company gets a couple of free lines in the Yellow Pages. Since we switched, we don't get those free listings, and since we dropped our Yellow Page display ads, we are completely out of the phone book now! Heck, we did not GET new phone books in January when everyone else in our area did. We are not in the White Pages. We are not even listed with directory assistance when you call 4-1-1 ! We asked our MCI rep about this mis-directory problem and we are told that Pac Bell was obliged to keep us listed on directory assistance but that Pac Bell had dropped the ball. So if your company switched from the local Bell company and is using MCI or some other provider for local phone service, call directory assistance and ask for your phone number. You may be unpleasantly surprised.
