Wal Mart Avaya phone systemQ. Does anyone know any exploits for the Avaya pbx systems that seem to be very prevalent at Wal-Mart stores? Is it possible to remotely dial in to the pbx and then access the intercom so you can play your own music or make your own announcements if you wish? I know this is possible with some other pbx's. For you 2600 magazine subscribers out there, does anyone have the Autumn 1997 issue that has an article in it entitled, "Secrets of WalMart"? Is this the article I should be looking for? A. Are they infact PBX systems? I know kmart used to use small key systems, but I don't know anything about walmarts system ;\ Wal-Mart stores have Merlin Legend Hybrid PBX systems... You can remotely dial to the systems but it requires... a) someone answers your call and is willing to transfer you to *10 b) you have a PC/laptop with WinSPM software connected to the line that you call in on thru a modem. As far as getting yourself on the loudspeaker, the system uses trunk ports instead of extension ports for loudspeaker paging.... but extension 799 is the PAGE ALL group which would announce a page over every phone (and up to 2 loudspeakers if programmed). I have never tried to transfer a call to a calling group such as 799 so I can't for sure whether or not it would work....fact is, calling groups are much more restricted than a regular, single extension (no forwarding or coverage options, for example) so I would tend to think you cannot be transferred to 799. Other paging groups are 793-798. Changing announcements can be done but there are some obstacles there as well. You must first get yourself transferred to any VMS port (which requires knowledge of the extension #'s OR duping someone into transferring you to VM via a VM button on their phone...NOT the VM Transfer button). ANOTHER POSSIBLE WAY - Depending on the Version/Model Voice Mail system, there are Star-codes that can get you into voice mail administration via the auto attendant OR while leaving a voice mail to an extension. Such a code would be *7 or *8 (don't remember). Once you get into the voice mail administration, your system administrator extension will 95% of the time be either 9997# OR 0#. If one doesn't work you can simply try the other. The default password for system administrator extension (9997 or 0) is 123456# OR 1234#, I have also seen the reverse sequence so might take a few tries. Once you log in as system adminstrator you are given a few choices but the one you want is hidden..... option 9. after hitting 9 you will again be prompted for a password....if you had gotten into the sysadmin extension with 123456#, the default option 9 password would be 654321#. If you got in sysadmin access with 1234#, then your option 9 password would be 1234# by default. Once you are in, option 3 is your auto attendant...... from there you are prompted to create selector code lists (what happens when a caller hit which button(s), submenus (extension directory, etc...) and of course, your general greeting, or recording. This was not written with the intention of aiding anyone in criminal activity...infact, upon accessing option 9 you recieve a formal warning in regards to the laws of tampering with unauthorized equipment. I would suggest not trying any of this on an actual phone system unless you have been given permission by the system operator and you know what you are doing.
