Media mode and call privilege question /Avaya PBX problems ?Q. I'm having problems making a simple TAPI call on an Avaya IP Office PBX. The application works fine with other PBXes and analog modems. I tested Microsoft Dialer on the Avaya switch and that works, so it's clearly something that I have misconfigured in my ActiveX control. I'm now thinking that it might be the media mode and perhaps call privilege settings, they are currently: Datamodem and Owner respectively. It might be that the Avaya PBX is not able to handle the Datamodem setting? What are the Media mode and Call privilege settings that would work in any situation, perhaps Unknown and None, I'm only using this app. to make outbound calls, nothing inbound? Or should I look in a different direction to make a TAPI call on the Avaya PBX? A. There is nothing that works in any situation. You need to check what media modes are supported by the Avaya TSP by evaluating LINEDEVCAPS.dwMediaModes. For outbound calls that your app intitiated by lineMakeCall() you are automatically owner. dwMediaModes and dwPrivileges at lineOpen() are for calls not originated by your app, e.g. incoming calls. To set the media mode for outbound calls you need to use LINECALLPARAMS at lineMakeCall(). The default is _INTERCATIVEVOICE (if nothing else is set). Try it with TAPI Browser TB20 before starting to code anything yourself. Can you reproduce the issue with TAPI Browser TB20 ? Please post a TB20.log and enable Options/LogParameters and /ShowTimeStamps in TB20. 1) I tried to make an outbound call on an Avaya IP Office station, which doesn't work. What does work is: = Microsoft Dialer can make the same call successfully = Our ActiveX control can make a successful call on that same station on a Tapi enabled softphone called X-Tapi Pro (xten.de), so I know that activex control is sending out a Tapi call = I traced 2) The ActiveX control is called AmiTapiPro by Allen-Martin, unfortunately a now defunct company 3) I will start to evaluate the supported media modes. What I discovered today is that our ActiveX control can also selected multiple media modes (we selected unknown, data modem, interactivevoice and automatedvoice), is that a good strategy? It seems to have solved the problem that my datamodem didn't seem to accept Automatedvoice only. 4) Is it possible to monitor our TAPI activeX control with TB20? You can try the Shareware version of our TeleScope utility. If you need to replace your old components, you may want to look at TeleTools. We have a lot of experience in the PBX market and have lots of clients using the Avaya. We also have a new version of the components with PBX tools such at etXferConf to automatically do transfers and conferences. You can get TeleScope in the eval version here: http://www.exceletel.com/products/TeleTools/PremiumTrialRequest.htm The try to select your device in the etLine dropdown device list, click on the red telephone to activate the device, then put a phone number in the phone number box on the call tab and click the dial button. Switch to the log tab and it should tell you exactly what is happening.
