Phone Systems for Small Business ?

Edwards Finance > Phones

Q. What brands of phone systems should I look for for a small business 5 employess max . Avaya and Panasonic ?

A. It depend on your business size and what features you want. I always try to steer people to the more affordable multi-line systems. If you are a small business and have few employees and dont need any voicemail I'd go with a multiline phone system. I find a lot of people wasting their money on expensive phone systems and they end up never using the features you would use when you buy a phone system. If you really want one though, Id go with Avaya Partner system or Panasonic Digital series phone systems... The Panasonic Digital is really nice. Especially the way you can add plain phones to the system as a 2nd phone to a digital set or as regular extensions. You've got the best choices. If you are planning to do it all yourself, I would recommend Avaya Partner systems, as their manuals are better. If you are getting "professional help", then Panasonic Digital KXTD816 will be absolutely great for you... depending on a few other conditions (how many outside lines, do you want voicemail, any other tricky situations). The Panasonic is extremely flexible in the things it can do for a small business, and there are a lot of Panasonic affectionados like myself on line who are happy to help with ideas and unique programming questions. Panasonic has had two brands of business phone systems for many years, DBS and KXT. They have discontinued the DBS (Digital Business System) series of telephone equipment. The other systems are known by the letters KXT KXTA or KXTD in their numbering (KXTD is digital). These systems are still going strong. They range in size from a 3 line/ 8 extension system up to the KXTD500 that can support up to about 500 ports. I think they finally got treatment for their schizophrenia. Both systems were in direct competition with each other, marketed totally separately.
