OT? Want to become an audio engineerEdwards Finance > General Engineering Q. I am not sure if this is the right place for my question, please just ignore me if it isn't. But if have a question: I want to become an audio engineer, and since I'm living in germany, I can choose between SAE, SFT or an University in Berlin or Düsseldorf. I'm not quite sure where to go, because some people I asked about SAE said it's cool, some said it's useless; and some said the same about the University or the SfT. So I'm trying to get as many opinions as I can, to make a good decision. What are your opinions? How did you find your way to the recording industry? What is the best way? A. -Well, if you want to do it right, check out the tonmeister programs offered in Germany. I think you'd learn a whole lot more than spending a year or so at SAE. http://www.tonmeister.de/ - I also tried to inform myself about audio engineer training. Anyways, if my opinion means anything to you, here it is: Studying at one of the Universities is pointless, if you want to go into the Top100-big-record-company-business. Too much effort and no guarantee for success. If I remember correctly, one has to bring a few qualifications like playing two classical instruments, reading notes and stuff like that, not unlike the musical arts students. SAE is more into preparing people for modern record business, and therefore they teach you less theory but more practical things. Personally I don't like SAE, but in most of the cases its the wiser choice, because they teach you what you need for the audio engineer job. Not less not more.
