if 3D CAD drafting has found some legitimate (i.e. industrial) use, aren't there many uses for 2D drafting too?Edwards Finance > CAD Drafting Q. Are you suggesting that the electrical schematic & wiring diagrams I used to draw in a past lifetime were lacking because they were only drawn in 2D? I never had anyone complain about my drawings lacking depth (although I do dimly recall a few murmurs about my drawings lacking proof reading ). I admit to being well behind the leading edge of drafting (I just recently obtained, from ebay, a book on drafting circa 1906!), so you tell me: is 3D CAD drafting used for anything other than rendering elements of video games? And, surely, even if 3D CAD drafting has found some legitimate (i.e. industrial) use, aren't there many uses for 2D drafting too? A. -Check out Pro/Desktop Express from PTC: http://www.ptc.com/products/desktop/index.htm It's a 3D cad package with associative 2D drafting for free (not a demo) - it may suit your needs & you can't beat the price! -Guess some 98 pct CAD are 2D, -------- but then what is 3D ; is the third dimension not juse aswell adding a database to an entity ? I say so, as I don't agrea that the limitasions are there where the discussion 2 versus 3D are and been since 3D evolved ; realy I think that it's _not_ an issue about 3 versus 3D, but somthing even vorse. I claim that while this is also a theoretic discussion, that what realy limit, is the way we are used viewing a 3D dawing or model, while the 2D part of it deal with the real world and manufactoring, the real limitasion is how stuck we are in what we think to be 3D. Even free-form 3D modeling are as 2D is to today's 3D, while we still work from rigid front/side/top views. Just check what the profit of a little more flexibility can be, in terms of new visions and possibilities , even with just two planes ; http://w1.1396.telia.com/~u139600113/a
